Velvet Eclipse is built from deep burgundy anthurium leaves, trailing amaranthus in fuchsia and burgundy, and layers of dark tropical foliage, finished with a single crystal-embellished anthurium crystallinum leaf at its heart. It reads less like a bouquet and more like a piece of editorial fashion — a composition drawn from dark romance and celestial art rather than the conventions of floristry.
The anthurium is the anchor here, and it carries a particular history. Native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, it was named in the nineteenth century from the Greek for flower and tail. Its leaves are famously glossy and sculptural, catching light the way velvet does — rich, deep and quietly intense. The anthurium crystallinum at the centre is prized for its dark, heart-shaped leaf and luminous silver veining; set with crystals, it becomes the defining detail of the arrangement.
